How to create your Titan account

STEP 1

Signing up

First name, last name, email and password.

You can change your name later from your Profile. Your email you cannot, so use the address you actually check: that is where account communications land.

STEP 2

The four questions

Right after signing up, Titan asks you four questions so you do not land on an empty screen.

1. Your base currency

This is the currency you want to read your numbers in. If you pick the dollar, Titan converts whatever you hold in euros or pounds into dollars, even though each asset keeps trading in its own currency.

Give this one some thought, because your base currency cannot be changed later. It is the only one of the four answers that is final. Pick the currency you think about your net worth in.

2. Your goals

How much you want to get to, and by when.

This is also where you say how much you plan to contribute to your broker on a regular basis, monthly or yearly. Titan factors it in: from your current capital, your contributions and your target date, it works out the annual return you need to get there. If you are not sure, or you do not plan to contribute regularly, leave it at 0 and adjust it later.

3. Your investing style

This pre-fills your Profile with starting values instead of leaving everything at zero. It does not change any calculation. Pick whichever describes you best and move on.

4. What you already hold

Two routes. You can link your broker, and your transactions come in on their own, each with its date and purchase price. Or you can enter them manually, one by one, if you would rather control exactly what goes in.

You can combine the two: link the brokers you use and manually add whatever sits outside them. What you want to avoid is manually adding something that already comes from a linked broker, because it will show up twice.

You are also asked for the cash you have available at your broker: money sitting in the account that is not invested in anything. It counts as part of your portfolio, so it is worth entering it.

You can skip this step and do it later from Transactions.

STEP 3

You are in

Now you finish setting up your investment plan, and that happens in your Profile. It is where you write the rules you invest by: how much a single position can weigh, what margin of safety you require, how far you let yourself concentrate in one country or one sector.
