Titan guide
The Titan guide
How Titan works, screen by screen, taking nothing for granted. If there is a term you do not know, it is explained where it first appears.
The order that takes the least work
The screens are not independent: some feed others. You can read this in any order, but if you are starting out, this one costs the least effort.
In this guide
- 1. Create your account · signing up, the four questions and what you find when you get in
- 2. Investment plan · the six decisions behind your portfolio structure
- 3. Transactions · your book of operations, and the source every other screen reads from
- 4. Dashboard · the picture of your portfolio, and what each number on it measures
- 5. Dividends · yield, yield on cost and when you actually get paid
- 6. Calendar · earnings, dividends and what you are studying
- 7. The Workshop · where your theses and reports live
- 8. Investment thesis · every field explained, and what each one changes
- 9. Results · write what you expect before a company reports
- 10. Sector reports · the Circle of Competence tab, field by field
- 11. Optimization · how the simulation works and how to read it
The first six get your portfolio into Titan and show you what it is doing. The last five are the work you do on top: your own analysis, and what the platform can calculate once it exists.
Six words that come up everywhere
Get these six straight and the rest explains itself.
| Word | What it means in Titan |
|---|---|
| Asset | Each specific thing you can invest in, usually a company’s stock |
| Position | What you hold of a given asset. If you own 30 Apple shares, that is your Apple position |
| Portfolio | All of your positions together, plus the money you have not invested |
| Cash | The money you have available and uninvested |
| Base currency | The currency you want to read your numbers in, even though each asset trades in its own |
| Thesis | The document where you write why a company interests you and what you think it is worth |
Titan does not tell you what to buy or sell, and it does not promise any return. It processes the information you give it so you can make informed decisions. The decisions are yours.
Reading about a screen only gets you so far. The quickest way for any of this to make sense is to have it open in front of you while you read, so create your account and follow along. The first guide takes five minutes.
